The Hanna Group was selected by the County of Placer as the prime consultant to provide full Construction Management Services for the Alpine Meadows Road Bridge Replacement Project.
Alpine Meadows Road is a local road located north of Tahoe City in east Placer County which accommodates two-lanes and runs east-west from Highway 89 to Alpine Meadows Ski Area. The existing three-lane bridge spans the Truckee River and is located on Alpine Meadows Road adjacent to the intersection of State Route 89 and is the sole entrance for Alpine Meadows Resort.
The County has programmed this bridge to be replaced under the Federal Highway Bridge Program (HBP). The proposed bridge will clear span the Truckee River and will be widened to meet the current design standards. The new bridge will consist of precast-pre-stressed bridge will consist of precast-pre-stressed concrete I-girders, a reinforced concrete deck, cast-in-place concrete abutments, and cast-in-drilled-hole piles. The future bridge will have three 12-foot lanes for traffic, two 4-foot shoulders and two raised sidewalks of varying widths from 5 feet to 7.5 feet. The bridge project includes approach roadway work of approximately 1,400 feet on Alpine Meadows Road and 600-feet on Hwy 89. In addition, the project also includes adding a signalized intersection at Alpine Meadows Rd and Hwy 89 using Caltrans shop funding. In order to build the new bridge a temporary prefabricated steel truss bridge must be installed and traffic re-routed through the parking lot of several local businesses which requires significant effort and an extensive public outreach plan.
